Protein Routine

A new year brings great opportunity to establish new healthy habits. Everyone talks about the need for more protein in your diet so let's talk about the best ways you can establish a protein routine as we kick off this new year.

1. Create your meals and snacks around your protein. As explained in this article, this means choose your protein first, then choose your carbs and fat that are going to accompany it. This will ensure you are getting protein in you each time you eat throughout the day. If you are struggling to identify which foods are high in protein, check out this list!

2. Fortify your foods that are lacking in protein. For example, add a scoop of flavourless protein to your orange juice or coffee or to the milk that you pour over your cereal. You can even add it to your baked goods! If you can find a high quality protein supplement, you won't even notice it has been added!

3. Track your protein intake to help you get a better feel for how much you should be consuming on a daily basis. This article references a few protein specific tracking apps but a few of our favourites include MyFitnessPal, Protein Pal, and Cronometer. Remember that the latest research states that you should aim to consume 1.6g of protein per kg of ideal body weight. If you'd like to skip the math, you can use a protein calculator which will do the work for you!

4. Try Protein Coffee! In addition to our Polar Joe blends, some other brands on the market include brüst, Ascent, and Javy.

With a little thought and intention, you'll be well on your way to hitting your daily protein goals!
